Master of Education - Social Emotional Learning

Northcentral University’s Master of Education with a specialization in Social Emotional Learning will help you develop the skills and the personal and professional growth required for effective practice in the field of social emotional learning. The 10-course program prepares you to become an SEL leader after three to five years of direct experience. In this specialization, you will learn to demonstrate expertise in social, emotional, and academic education of students as a holistic approach, conduct a needs assessment, plan and implement curriculum, and assess student learning, serve as a resource to the school, students and their families, and the community, and more. In general, this program focuses on applying principles of learning and behavior to enhance the development, abilities, and choices of children and adults; preparing students to provide social, emotional, and academic education services at home and at school, clinics, and hospital settings to students, families, and schools; and training students to address the behavioral needs of individuals, especially those with developmental disabilities. There are five core competencies covered in this specialization: self-awareness, self-management, responsible decision making, relationship skills, and social awareness. These competencies are applied across three settings: classrooms (curriculum and instruction), schools (school-wide practices and policies), and homes and communities (family and community partnership).
