Education Specialist (EdS) - Social Emotional Learning

National University’s EdS with Specialization in Social Emotional Learning program will help you develop the skills and the personal and professional growth required for effective practice in the field of social emotional learning. The 11-course program prepares you to become an SEL leader after three to five years of direct experience. In this specialization, you will learn to demonstrate expertise in social emotional education content, conduct a needs assessment, plan and implement curriculum, assess student learning, coordinate school health and advocacy for social, emotional, and academic education as a holistic approach, serve as a resource to the school, students and their families, the community, and more. The Social Emotional Learning (SEL) specialization is focused on mid-career or advanced classroom teachers, school counselors or psychologists, and school/district administrators who desire a more intensive examination of the five core competencies identified by the Collaborative for Academic, Social, and Emotional Learning (CASEL): self-awareness, self-management, responsible decision-making, relationship skills, and social awareness. From a practitioner’s perspective, you will examine how these competencies are applied across classrooms, schools, homes, and communities. While individuals outside of the K-12 school context would benefit from the specialization, the courses do use a K-12 lens.
